Château Gruaud Larose

Château Gruaud Larose

Château Gruaud Larose was founded in the 18th century by Joseph Stanislas Gruaud, who passed it on in 1771 to Mr Larose, Lieutenant General of the Seneschaussée of Guyenne. In 1781 the name of the new owner was added to that of his predecessor.
The vineyard then became “Gruaud Larose” and the legend was born.

In 1871, the estate was split between the two heir branches of Mr Larose, giving rise to the two crus: Gruaud Larose Berthmann and Gruaud Larose Sarget.

On 8 November 1935, Désiré Cordier, after combining the shares of the Sarget and Berthmann families, reconstituted the 137-hectare estate, including 68 hectares of vines.

Successively owned by Suez (1983), then Alcatel-Alsthom (1993), the Merlaut family acquired Gruaud Larose in 1997, with great ambitions for this vintage, pushing it to the top.

In 2019, they entrusted the destiny of the vineyard to Nicolas Sinoquet, who is gradually leading the vineyard towards an organic approach, which will be consecrated in 2022.
